About roof’s and solar

Our USP

We aim to make the process of buying solar as easy as possible. We also want to help as many people as possible benefit from the technologies available. We aren't in the business of selling you something you don't want, don't need or can't afford. We want to design systems that work in tandem with your way of life and that means designing a system to work with your energy demands. We are engineers at heart and we want to make things work properly and efficiently.

Underpinning our work is a deep knowledge of the systems and technologies that go together to make a solar, storage or EV products work efficiently together. We have done our homework so you don't have to. We carefully choose reliable, quality technologies that are built to last, that are straightforward to install and maintain and offer the best in service lifetime performance so you get higher efficiencies that help you benefit the most.

We are not a national installer, we are experts in our field, local, reliable, available and willing to help you when you need us. You can ask anytime for help and we’ll be there.

How long does it take?

Installations

Will there be scaffolding?

A typical installation, when our team is doing installation work, can be as little as one day. More complicated installations can be 2 or 3 days. On rare occasions it is a little longer.

General guidance on this is covered in BSI document PAS63100-2024. It says batteries should, where practicable, be stored outside - this can be an outside wall, it is best if there is shade, and also includes buildings places like garages and sheds. If not practicable outside, then other good locations are utility rooms and kitchens and other places in the main living areas. These places also need fire alarms. Batteries can't be stored in bedrooms or cupboards in bedrooms, in routes of escape such as under stair cases or in corridors, lofts and cellars.

Just Solar - Solar panels, Roof or ground mounting system, Inverter, connection cables & various switches, controls, meter and safety kit.

Just Storage - Battery, Inverter, connection cables & various switches, controls, meter and safety kit.

Solar + storage - Solar panels, Roof or ground mounting system, Battery, Inverter, connection cables & various switches, controls, meter and safety kit.

EV charger - Connecting equipment, EV charger

See also system capabilities - there are different capabilities available which is useful to understand

If we need to work at height, usually so we can install the solar panels on your roof, then we will need to install scaffolding to gain access. This is the first and last parts of the installation. It usually stays up about 1 week.

When we do the site survey we will discuss the cable arrangements with you.

What else do I get?

Our service also includes:

  • Ensuring you get the correct authorisations to connect your system to the grid.

  • When we complete the work we’ll give you an MCS certificate so you can apply for a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) that will allow you sell exported energy to your chosen energy supplier.

  • We’ll also give you straight forward operational training, provide access to the system app and a professional handover pack that contains every detail of the installed system for your future reference.

  • Work is guaranteed for 5 years alongside an insurance backed guarantee.

  • Manufacturer equipment warranty is usually 10 or 12 years and panel warranty is 25 years.

  • We are certified to operate by MCS and audited by IAA.

What size battery do I need?

We have developed our own in house software to find the right size battery for our customers because we are asked this question often. The software tells us what the most cost effective battery size is for your forecasted use. We want to avoid you buying a battery that is either too big or too small for you needs. It optimises the size (measured in kWh) and cost.

Beyond this, sometimes there are other factors such as future plans to install other energy tech like air source heat pumps. In those cases we would provide advice and recommendations about what battery would be most suitable

Manufacturer warranty

Our workmanship guarantee promise

When installation is completed we pass on the manufacturer warranty to you, registered in your name and address. In the event of any of the manufacturer equipment needing to be replaced or repaired, the manufacturer will do this. Our proposals will contain the manufacturer name and model name and details of the warranty. Typically warranty on batteries, EV chargers and inverters is 10 or 12 years. On solar panels it is 25 years.

Our workmanship is guaranteed for 5 years. This means all of our work that is described in our proposals and carried out on your property is guaranteed to last for at least 5 years. If for any reason it does not, then we will fix it for free. We sincerely wish we don't need to do that, but it’s our promise if it's needed. We also give you an insurance backed guarantee as extra protection.

Manufacturer’s quality

In addition to choosing electrical equipment products with market leading warranties (12 years) and solar PV products (25 years) we also use or experience and knowledge to recommend the best products we know work best.

Savings on energy bills

When we have designed your system we will also provide an estimate of its performance. The performance of solar PV systems is impossible to predict with certainty due to the variability in the amount of solar radiation (sunlight) from location to location and from year to year. This estimate we provide is based upon the standard MCS procedure is given as guidance only. It should not be considered as a guarantee of performance.

The solar PV self-consumption has been calculated in accordance with the most relevant methodology for your system. There are a number of external factors that can have a significant effect on the amount of energy that will be self-consumed.

Shading will be present on your system that will reduce its output to the factor stated. This factor was NOT calculated using the MCS shading methodology, but we can confirm that the system as quoted, taking into account the shading present, will deliver at least 90% of the energy (in kWh) as set out in this performance estimate.

This system performance calculation undertaken using estimated values for array orientation, inclination, or shading. Actual performance may be significantly lower or higher if the characteristics of the installed system vary from the estimated values.
